What’s more Kiwi than pavlova at Christmas, jandals at the beach or a three way handshake at the Rugby World Cup final? Well, the answer to that would have to be the first Festival One homegrown announcement.
Adding more flavours to Festival than a pick’n’mix we’re very excited to welcome first time Festival artists Juliagrace and Strahan to the Festival One family, and welcome back South Auckland Poets Society and [shift]. Read up on the artists below and sneak a listen to what you can expect to hear from them come January 2016!
Juliagrace is somewhat a legend in Kiwi music circles. Before her solo career, she was the lead vocalist of electronic outfit, Elevator. With two solo albums under her belt, a Tui music award and countless number one singles, Julia has a knack for writing heartfelt pop songs that resonate with the soul.

Chords and truth. It’s as simple as that.
Growing up on Dylan and the old Christian folk troubadours, Strahan’s music is described as ‘Folk Psalmery’. Rich with poetic imagery describing the relationship between God and mankind his modern day psalms have become local and international favourites.

South Auckland Poets Collective
Established in 2008, the South Auckland Poets Collective is a tight knit group of 14 poets who use spoken word poetry as a tool for positive social change. Bursting with humour and unafraid of vulnerability, the collective’s poetry engages and explores issues and experiences we all go through. Built on rhythm, their words and unique styles stay with the listener long after the mic has been turned off.

For many Festival goers today marks the welcome return of [shift] to the Festival lineup. Hailing from Auckland, the alternative rock band boasts music that needs to be listened to loud, and a dynamic live show. Debut album ‘The Traveller’, which was released late last year to great applause, is a showcase of the band’s ability to write epic rock music with heart.
