Far-Northern Maori of Aupouri/Te Rarawa descent, Shona has travelled the world as a member of The Pink Family – presenting the Gospel through music, song, and kapahaka long before globalism became a common term. As well as being educated in Tamaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, Shona with her family gained access to other world ethnicities through the uniqueness of being Maori.
Following a career in broadcasting Shona took up a scholarship through St John’s Theological College, studying at Auckland University to complete her Honours Degree in Theology. This study heightened her awareness of “a distinctly monocultural/monolingual approach to Christian faith in New Zealand, particularly in church life.”
Current Chairperson of United Maori Mission, and a member of Kahui Wahine – a national council for Anglican women – Shona is also worship leader at Holy Sepulchre Church in Auckland Central.
