Jocee Tuck takes pleasure and inspiration in everyday experiences, writing with genuine feeling. At once at songwriter, composer, arranger and performer, Jocee has an ear for melody and inventive instrumentation; the very skills saw her win the title of Inaugural Auckland University Songwriter of the Year in 2009.
Known as one half of the duo Bear Cat, Jocee and band-mate Dan Trevarthen opened the curtains for local Sub Pop graduates The Ruby Suns and touring acts like Andrew Bird, Matt and Kim and Half-handed Cloud. Bear Cat’s “Xiong Mao” album was released in September 2009 and remains a firm favourite with panda lovers worldwide.
Jocee Tuck released her own EP ‘Tunes and Trumpets’ in 2011. ‘Mt. Dora’, released in May 2016, is her first full-length work.
NZ Musician wrote “Jocee Tuck’s sweet, light voice is approachable and kind, reminiscent of Ingrid Michaelson or Regina Spektor. There’s a myriad of instruments on her debut. Graham Reid also describes it as “delightful, shapeshifting alt.folk pop…a talent worth watching out for”.
