Passing through the doors of The Upper Room in Newmarket, Auckland, there is a distinct flavour to the sermons and services. The art installations, the missional bent and the emphasis on people, are largely due to the heart of Craig Heilmann who, alongside wife Kim, founded the church back in 2011. Their passion is for growth of a missional Christian community embodying the full life-transforming power of Jesus in the power of His Spirit.

Craig’s personal studies encompass the intersection of theology, ethics, and the life of witness in the contemporary church – first as a theology student at Regent College, Canada; then completing his doctorate in virtue ethics at Duke University in 2009.

A former CEO of Focus on the Family NZ, Craig is an author of books and journal articles, and an avid cricket fan. Craig and Kim have three children aged 9, 14 and 16.
