Charles & Janine Williams’ style is a graphic, colourful outworking of their environmental & genealogical urban Maori heritage, love of nature and love for God. They are at the forefront of a new wave of urban pacific contemporary art quickly becoming recognisable around the world.
Charles (Ngāti Kahungunu) & Janine (Ngāti Paoa, Ngāti Whātua) live in South Auckland with their four children. Now pastors at Faith City Manukau and full-time urban contemporary artists, Charles and Janine spent much of their youth on the street and discovered their talent with spray cans as part of hip hop culture. Compelled by their faith and love for people, Charles and Janine remained with that community, Charles being a founder and now president of the TMD crew (The Most Dedicated), choosing to utilise their artistic talents to help bring about transformation from within. This husband and wife team continue to push paradigms, raising the profile of graffiti/street art and deepening its influence as a legitimate art form globally – from the street to the gallery.
